Gold and silver prices in Dubai opened the week at fresh record highs on Monday, with gold climbing by more than Dh8 per gram amid rising global uncertainty. The surge comes as geopolitical tensions increased following US President Donald Trump’s threat to impose additional tariffs on the European Union over the issue of Greenland.

Data from the Dubai Jewellery Group showed the price of 24K gold rising by Dh8.25 per gram to Dh562, while 22K gold gained Dh7.5 to reach Dh520.25 per gram. Other variants also touched record levels, with 21K gold trading at Dh499 per gram, 18K at Dh427.75 and 14K at Dh333.5 per gram.

In the international market, gold jumped 1.64 per cent to $4,671.72 per ounce by 9.25 am UAE time. Silver also saw strong gains, touching $94 per ounce earlier in the session before easing slightly to $93.19 at the same time.

Vijay Valecha, Chief Investment Officer at Century Financial, said the outlook for gold remains positive. He explained that investors usually turn to safe-haven assets such as gold when geopolitical risks rise. Current concerns include escalating protests in Iran and increasing tensions between the US and the EU over Greenland, with Washington adopting a stronger stance.
