What is dividend and how does it work?

A dividend is a distribution of profits by a corporation to its shareholders. When a corporation earns a profit or surplus, it can pay a proportion of the profit as a dividend to shareholders. When a dividend is paid on a stock, the value of the stock will drop. Short positions will be positively impacted by the drop in Price, while long positions are negatively impacted. Dividend adjustments are therefore applied on Share CFD products to negate the impact of the drop in Price. If you are long, you are credited a dividend adjustment. If you are short, you will be debited a dividend adjustment.

Stock CFDS, ETFS Corporate Actions

Since the stock CFD or ETF is closely connected to the underlying asset’s price movement, it will also be affected by the corporate action on the underlying asset. Century Financial will determine the appropriate measures in a commercially reasonable manner to account for the corporate action’s implication. This may include adjustment of positions and prices to preserve the economic equivalent of stock CFD or ETF, or to reflect the effect of the event on the relevant underlying asset.

The economic effect on stock CFD or ETF holders will replicate the effects of the corporate action for both long and short positions of the underlying asset. Due to restrictions implemented by regulatory bodies, stock exchanges or liquidity, shorting of a particular stock CFD or ETF may be restricted.

Clients are solely responsible for checking any available information on corporate actions that may affect their stock CFD or ETF positions and pending orders. Century Financial has no obligation to contact clients holding positions proactively, that may be affected by corporate action.

Please get in touch with your Account Manager or our Support Desk if you need more information on how a particular corporate action may affect your stock CFD or ETF position.

Century Financial reserves the right to correct or adjust any past corporate action as needed.

Futures CFD Contract Expiry

Futures CFD contracts have set expiry dates for exchanging the concerned asset. These contracts have several expiration dates throughout the year, each of which is only active for a certain amount of time. Futures CFD contracts come with a rollover option, which gives traders the right to extend the contract if they choose so

Rollover refers to extending a financial contract past its expiry date or renewing the contract when it has expired. A contract’s expiration date is the last day you can trade that contract, which varies from contract to contract.

Clients holding Futures CFD contracts have two options:

a) Close the position before expiry.
b) Rollover by closing the current month's contract and opening the next month's contract.

If no action is taken on the Futures CFD contract by the client, then the positions get settled at the settlement price on the expiry day.
