Cybersecurity: The New Frontline In the Era
By Century Financial in 'Investment Insights'

The Idea Simplified
For years, enterprises bought dozens of small, standalone cybersecurity products from many vendors. They are now doing the opposite: cutting vendor lists and buying larger, integrated bundles from a handful of platform companies, driven by cost pressures and breaches that exposed gaps between disconnected tools. That shift alone is accelerating the winners revenue growth. On top of that, AI is compressing attack speed (forcing defensive spend to accelerate) and giving vendors a new, high-priced product line to sell into an already installed base. The peer set is now posting double-digit revenue growth alongside expanding margins in the same year, a genuine step-change from the growth-at-all-costs profile of the 2021–2022 SaaS cohort. Direct beneficiaries: PANW, CRWD, ZS, OKTA, NET and CSCO are in the frame via edge-networking and post-Splunk security scale.

Platform Consolidation Is Redrawing the Vendor Map
CIOs are cutting the number of security vendors they buy from because managing dozens of separate tools is expensive, creates security gaps at the joins, and slows deployment. For the platform vendors, this shows up as much larger deals per customer. PANW's Q4 FY25 bookings were its strongest in 2.5 years, with roughly 170 customers now spending above $5M each on Next-Generation Security (NGS) products (up ~50% YoY) and single consolidation deals reaching $50M in annual recurring revenue. CrowdStrike's Falcon Flex subscription and Next-Gen SIEM (a modern replacement for older log-analysis tools like Splunk and QRadar) are actively taking share from those incumbents. Zscaler's "Trust Everywhere" cohort customers on its full zero-trust stack reached 700+ in Q3 FY26 from 550+ a quarter earlier. This is a rewiring of enterprise security budgets, not a passing cycle.
AI Adoption Is Driving Growth While Expanding the Attack Surface
AI is affecting cybersecurity from two directions at once. First, attacks are getting dramatically faster: CrowdStrike's 2026 threat report found the average time an attacker takes to break in and spread across a company's network fell to 29 minutes, from 98 minutes in 2021 (the fastest observed was 27 seconds). Enterprises cannot afford to under-invest at that speed. Second, AI has given the platform vendors a new, premium-priced product line to sell to their existing customer base. PANW's AI-related recurring revenue reached ~$545M in Q4 FY25, more than 2.5x year-on-year. This is money layered on top of existing renewals, not a substitute product.
Implication. AI is both raising defensive spend (customers must respond to faster, more effective attacks) and giving vendors a new, high-priced product line to sell. Platform vendors capture spend on both sides — which is why the AI cycle drives sector-level revenue rather than a narrow product category.
Identity — Human and Agentic — Is the New Perimeter
Work has moved off corporate networks and into the cloud, and AI-powered software "agents" (programs that act on a person's behalf) now run inside companies. Security has shifted from "is your network safe" to "who is logging in, and are they allowed to." Okta reports over 90% of its customers already run AI agents in production, but only 22% are confident those agents are properly controlled. That is a large, urgent, unsold market. Platform vendors are actively buying their way in: PANW paid $25B for CyberArk (closed February 2026) to own the identity piece; Zscaler bought Symmetry Systems (May 2026) to control what AI agents can access. Identity is now the fastest-growing category of enterprise security spend.
Coverage Snapshot: Stock MOAT & Financial Profile
| Ticker | Name | Differentiation, Growth Drivers & Financial Momentum |
|---|---|---|
| PANW | Palo Alto Networks | Runs security across the three areas CIOs most want to consolidate: network, cloud, and (post-CyberArk) identity. Next-Generation Security ARR growing 28–33% YoY with operating margin above 30% for three consecutive quarters. |
| CRWD | CrowdStrike | Detects threats using AI trained on huge customer telemetry — more customers means better detection. Falcon Flex and Next-Gen SIEM are winning share from Splunk and QRadar. FCF margin 34% in Q1 FY27 (a record); partnerships with Anthropic and OpenAI extend Falcon into agentic AI. |
| OKTA | Okta | Identity is Okta's core product, now the fastest-growing category of enterprise security spend. New products covering AI-agent governance and privileged access drove ~25% of Q1 FY27 bookings. Customers spending >$100K/year represent ~85% of contract value. |
| NET | Cloudflare | Operates a global "edge" network delivering connectivity and security from the same infrastructure. Well-positioned as work moves off corporate networks and as AI inference (running AI models close to users) becomes a new demand line. Financial detail not in Primary Source. |
| CSCO | Cisco Systems | The dominant enterprise networking incumbent, with broader security scale after its 2024 Splunk acquisition. Its very large install base offers a wide channel for cross-selling security alongside networking hardware. |
| ZS | Zscaler | Built around "zero trust", the model assumes no user or device is safe by default and checks every access request. Customers on the full zero-trust stack grew from 550+ to 700+ in a single quarter (Q3 FY26). 26% revenue growth with 29% FCF margin same quarter. |
